Pinterest, what should I do?

I bet by now you have all heard read about the controversy regarding Pinterest.  In the past couple of days I have been seeing posts about it and today I came across this article and it got me thinking, again. Oh, if only I knew what to do? Should I delete my beloved boards on which I spent quite some hours mostly in the evenings looking for inspiration?

Part of me wants to do just that. Delete all of it. Because I don't have the time or money for a lawsuit in case an artist I pinned work of, decides to sue me. I mean, I always try to link back to the origin of whatever I am pinning, but as Pinterest's Terms of Use say, you declare that you own the picture you are pinning...um...ok...uh-oh!!

What are you going to do? Are you going to delete any of your pins or maybe even all of them (or just the ones you don't own) or are you going to keep pinning as if there were no tomorrow?

I really don't know what to do? I really love my boards and how I met so many people and found so many blogs through pinning. I don't want to give that up. Also, I have had quite some traffic on my blog thanks to pinning...don't want to give that up either. Maybe I should really just pin my own stuff or work from people that allow pinning their pictures.

I really hope Pinterest does something about this! I can't imagine they are keen on losing a whole bunch of "pinners"!

Please do share what you are planning on doing!

Hugs,

  1. I've deleted mine for two reasons. One i'd lost interest in it and kept forgetting to use it and it's just another social media I don't really need in my life. But secondly because of the copyright. I tried to link back to original posting but sometimes it was too hard especially if it's something that's been repinned a lot. At the end of the day a website and some photographs to me isn't worth the hassle of copyright infringement.

  2. I'm out of the loop on this one. I've not heard anything about it. I will say I hate it when people on tumblr steal my photos from flickr and don't credit them.

  3. I am just learning of this too so I hope I can just keep pinnning.

  4. I actually just deleted mine a few minutes ago. I've been toying with it, but wasn't sure what to do...finally just figured it would be safer to just say goodbye (maybe just until they fix things, if that happens).

  5. Wow! I didn't even know this was an issue. Guess I'm out of the loop :) Deleting boards is something worth thinking about! I don't want to offend any artist and I definitely don't want to be sued!!

  6. I have the same dilemma swirling in my head. I can't afford a law suit either and I certainly don't want one. Keep me posted on what you decide.

  7. I'm not sure what to do either. I love Pinterest, but I understand the problems that are arising from it. Keep us updated on your decision.

  9. This blows, i really don't know what to do maybe i will go back to pinning to my evernote and having everything there, i just don't like anything that messes with legal issues.

  10. I don't really understand why it's an issue. I mean, if someone clicks on the image, it goes directly to the source. So people will know that it's not yours! But I guess Pinterest will just have to change their Terms of Usage (or whatever).

Now, if this was mentioned in the article, I'm sorry; I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet because I have only a few minutes left to be online. :)

  11. Thanks for sharing this article! It's definitely something to think about! I guess if I pinned more I would really consider it due to the risks.

  12. Wow! I had no idea this was a problem at all. I don't use it much so I would gladly delete mine. I've never upoloaded my own pins because it makes me feel uncomforatable having my photos circulate all over, that is why I watermark them. Definitely something to think about.

  13. I've been thinking so much about this as well since this carousel started and I can not decide what to do! I've found so many things on Pinterest, from recepies, artists, blogs and so on and I can't imagine how boring and sad it would be to delete everything... But reading the article you linked to makes me even more confused... Maybe. Might. Deleting. Or not. Or.. Hmm. Must save some links first. Hmm. Damn You Pinterest.

  14. I really hate pinterest. I find my photography there all the time, usually with no credit to me. So, I would greatly appreciate your support it not using Pinterest.

  15. What? I hadn't heard this! Yikes, I love Pinterest - it's my favorite way to bookmark pages now. I'll have to read more, thanks!

  16. I know exactly how you feel! I've had the same thoughts going around in my head. For now, I will keep pinning, but I am trying to always add the link to the origianl source in my description now, too.

  18. I don't pin and don't plan to ever....so much time is eaten with blogging, FB and instagram that I just don't want to add another thing. I hope you make the choice that is best for you hon! I'll have to read the article, but it sounds like something i first thought of when pinterest first came out, how can people just be using others images and things they own?? Good luck!

  19. Oh, wow, I had no idea this was going on! I understand the issue is quite controversial. I mean, I see so many people who don't give a damn and just upload stuff without linking it to the proper source.

I don't think I'll delete my boards just yet. I've put so much time on them! :/

  20. I mean. They have to know people aren't doing this.

If every post would have a source - I do not see what the problem would be.

I'm not sure what to do either.

No one can afford a law suit! :)
I would have thought someone from Pinterest would have said something by now... or will they?

  21. So i was browsing and i found this:
    http://support.pinterest.com/entries/21047417-does-pinterest-have-restrictions-on-content

If they read it for other restrictions then you would think they would notice some things not linking correctly or invalid or well you know copyright. Meh so distraught.

  22. I have decided to share the things I make on pinterest & any guest bloggers that agree to have their pictures added. Apart from that I am just repining ones I like & ones that giveaways request you pin.
