31 July 2012

A year ago today we boarded a plane in Chicago to leave the life we had loved so much for the past 3 years to go back to our "old" lives in southern Germany. The time from September 2008 to July 31st 2011 went by way too fast and I wish I could turn back time to do it all over again.

These 3 years have changed and shaped us to be who we are now. We are not the same. We see things differently. Things we would have fret about years ago don't even bother us anymore. Our way of seeing things shifted into a whole new perspective.

And these 3 years will always be 3 of the most important in my our lives. We have grown so much and I am so happy we took this opportunity. This is not something everybody gets the chance to do and it's definitely not for everyone. A lot of people told me that they could never leave their home, their family and friends to lead a completely different life somewhere on another continent.

Well, we did it and it wasn't always easy, there are definitely some downsides to such an adventure and there are those days where you ask yourself what on earth you were thinking. And sometimes you get so homesick that you can hardly stand it. But for us it was all so worth it and we would do it all over again.

We still miss our home in the U.S. very much! It will always be a part of us and who we are and we hope to be able to return one day!

Hugs,

I have never thought that I would be able to live on another continent, leave all my friends and family. Yes, it's hard sometimes...your post makes me feel better. Thanks, my dear. Have a wonderful day! Hugs!

It's amazing how flexible and adaptable we are in terms of our definition of "home." Hope you keep making new memories and holding the old ones dear! :)

Time flies, I remember when you blogged about going back to Germany! I hope you are happy in your new home and I'm sure you'll always cherish the memories from the US.

Hi, I'm Chrissy - a part-time working mom and wife trying to navigate life by taking the pup for a walk while the pasta is cooking, so that lunch is ready on time. My spare time is for blogging and knitting - give me a precious skein of yarn and I am in heaven! Thanks for stopping by - enjoy! xxx
