I have been asked how I got the idea for my blog name a couple of times. So I thought I'd let you in on how I 'created' the name "Whimsical Poppysmic".

When I started blogging back in September 2010 I named my blog "Chrissy in America", because I wanted to use this space as a diary for our life overseas. But at some point I was sort of over the name. I knew it was time for a change. You know, when I started blogging, I had no idea what I was doing. What was important and how things worked. So, when the day came I knew it had to be something significant.

Shortly before I watched the movie Love Happens with Jennifer Aniston and Aaron Eckhardt and there is this one scene where she finds the hidden clue and the clue is POPPYSMIC.

PoppysmicPoppysmic refers to the noise produced by smacking the lips together.
It comes from the Latin poppysma, via the defunct French popisme. Romans used the original for a kind of lip-smacking, clucking noise that signified satisfaction and approval, especially during lovemaking. In French, it referred to the tongue-clickingtsk-tsk sound that riders use to encourage their mounts.

I knew immediately that I had to "do" something with this word because I like the thought of lips smacking against each other. And the word 'whimsical', well, I just think it fits perfectly. So, when I opened my Etsy shop (which is currently on vacay), I named it "Whimsical Poppysmic" and when I decided to change my blog name, it was just natural to give it the same name to show the connection between the two of them.

Well, and that's how my blog got it's name. I have been thinking of changing it again a couple of times, but somehow I just can't let go of WP! What do you think?
Hugs,
