It's 7:30 AM here in Germany and I called in sick today. I've been seeing it coming for a couple of days now - I just haven't been feeling well and this morning there was no way I could have gone to the office. Like I said in my Sunday post, there was a sick bug around our home and it finally got to me.
Now, normally this isn't anything special or blogworthy (sorry to bore you), but it always costs me quite an effort even calling in sick. You know, I have the kind of boss that will always take it personal. She assumes that the person is only doing so to harm her, the business, the universe...whatever. And I am the kind of person, I always feel guilty when calling in sick.
I know it's wrong and the hubs always tells me to stop worrying. He always has to remind me that my well-being is more important than some freaked out boss. And I know that he's right, but here I am writing this because of my guilty conscience. Damn you, conscience. I know I did the right thing.
Do you feel the same way when calling in sick? Do you feel guilty?
Hope you are all feeling a-okay and no sick bug i flying around your neck of the woods! Take care!
Hugs,

I understand your feelings so very well. But really, nobody would thank you or take care of you if you'd go to the office feeling unwell and sick - you'd have to do the same amount of work like all others. So, take your time to get well. If nothing else helps, go to the doctor and stay home for a little bit longer. Your boss should get over herself. Argh, that really makes me angry. I used to have a boss who was like that, too. It's not their business and I think they see that you are reliable and hard-working, so you should feel free to stay at home a few days when you feel sick! Don't care about her!!
Just make yourself comfy at home!! :)
XO. Nadine
probably because you ran yourself ragged last week?! :] Hope you're feeling better, friend.
I absolutely know how you feel, dear! But sick is sick! Don't feel bad about it! Feel better soon!
I love you!
Haha. I was just writing my husband and got confused! :) Aber ich hab Dich ganz dolle lieb! :)
Unless you're notoriously sick, I really don't get your boss' attitude, but I do understand very well how you feel.
I NEVER call in sick and still, when I do feel particularly awful in the morning, I still contemplate if I can afford to stay home or not.
You can imagine, the whole thing is much worse here in the US, where you have a limited amount of sick days.
But I agree with everyone else: you don't really do much good if you go to work and a) pass on sickness to other workers and b) are not very productive. It's better to stay home and rest for a day!
Hope you feel better soon!
Absolutely! But that's one of those things you just have to get over! If you don't feel well it's better for everyone if you just stay home and get well! Feel better girlie!!!
I always feel guilty calling in sick too. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it. Feel better!
I know what you mean...I always used to feel the same way when I called in at my old job. It's hard to get the rest you need when you give lots of energy to feeling guilty (i know!) But try to relax and rest up and FEEL better!! No worries...your boss will no doubt get over it. ;)
I ALWAYS feel like this when I call in sick! I absolutely hate it, I feel as though everyone thinks I'm faking it or something. You aren't alone, and unfortunately, some bosses out there are real assholes and do act like that but on the same token, there are plenty of awesome bosses out there too!
I totally understand how you feel. I went to work with asthma, feverish, etc because I felt I was disappointing my boss by calling in sick. But your husband is totally right! Your well-being is more important than an upset boss!
Hope you're fully recovered by now! ;D
Hugs! + chicken soup :p
I completely know this feeling! I feel guilty for calling out, even if I'm on my deathbed, becasue people at work assume you're playing hooky. I feel especially guilty if I'm sick on a Friday or a Monday. I make a point to call in (versus email) so they can HEAR that I'm actually sick.
